Two transfers took place in February and May 2005 on varied dates within these months. Between 6-8 of February 2005, 40 Hihi (7 adult males, 33 juveniles) were caught and taken to the Tiritiri Matangi Island aviary for processing. 3 juveniles were immediately released because they did not have a faecal sample or their sibling was already in the aviary. 2 other birds were re-released. 32 of these birds were caught in feeders. Between 8-11 May 2005, 43 hihi (10 adult females, 1 adult male with a broken leg, and 32 juveniles) were caught and taken to the aviary before transfer. 5 birds were released immediately. In total, however, 60 hihi were translocated (10 adults and 50 juveniles)to this release site from Tiritiri. 4 captive reared Hihi were also reintroduced from National Wildlife Centre, Mt Bruce: 3 on Feb 17, 2005 (2 males, 1 female, all juvenile) and 1 on March 26, 2005 (female, juvenile).
