Notes: What's This?
Type of source facility consisted of both a zoo and government agency (MINAE) for confiscated birds. There is a separate wild population of 330 birds in central pacific Costa Rica. Population size is assumed at 21 because there was no mention of wild birds in the area during observations. There were no large eagled at this site and hawk-eagles were at low densities. At the release site, macaws were held in outdoor aviaries for at least 6 months. Birds were fed a mixture of wild foods and basic diet. Formal predator training was not done at any of these sites. 2 Golfito birds were killed in the pre-release cage by a Leopard which made survivors wary of terrestrial mammals. Of all 31 scarlet macaws released to this site, 63% were alive and returning to the site through December 2002. Which release date they were from is not located.
