SOURCE SITE & # CAPTURED:14 birds were hand reared. 7 were confiscated form Margarita and 7 were confiscated from Blanquilla, but reared in Margarita. Origins were varied. Margarita Island: 4 hatched in 1990 – 1 from nest attacked by predators, another donated, and 2 siblings confiscated from poachers – and 3 hatched in 1991 and were confiscated from poachers. Blanquilla Island: all hatched in 1991 and moved to Margarita for captive rearing. Chicks were from 20-50 days old when received. The birds from the different islands were housed in 2 different large outdoor aviaries away from casual human presence and surrounded by natural habitat.
