Guam rail is not native to Rota Island, but were released there due to the absence of brown tree snakes. Rota is in the same archipelago as Guam. Reintroductions begain in 1989, and are continuing through the present. As of January 2008, 918 rails have been released at 9 release sites on Rota Island. 327 (36%) of them were released with transmitters. 42% survived 30 days and 31% survived 60 days.
