SELECTION CRITERIA: Old enough to thermoregulate and young enough to adjust to new burrow. 1982 Newsletter Update "Egg Rock" by S.W. Kress notes that 14 breeding pairs returned to Egg Rock Island in 1982. "Most" are returns from 571 translpanted chicks from between 1975 and 1980. In 1982, four of the breeding puffins were unbanded and came from Matinicus rock or Seal island. Immigrants are noted to become an increasingly important part of the Egg Rock population.
