Notes: What's This?
This experiment was trying to develop techniques to teach migration using ultralight planes, to be later applied to whooping cranes. RELEASE DATES: Nov 10th is day 29 birds that flew from Ontario arrived at the wintering ground at Airlie. There they were joined by another 31 birds & followed plane to Tom Yawkley Wildlife Center Nov 16-20. MARKED WITH: leg & neck bands. Note. only 15/59 birds migrated back to natal location on their own in April '96. Low success rate probably due to fact that birds did not complete whole migration (were trucked around the lake Michigan the avoid flying in bad weather)
