Sandhill cranes are surrogate for Whooping cranes. Experiment is trying to establish methodology to teach captive bred cranes to migrate by following ultralight planes. PRE-RELEASE TRAINING: imprinting on human parent. taught to follow ultralight planes. taught to roost in water (reduces predation risk)SURROGATE PROCEDURE: Canadian Goose taught to follow planes before cranes. CAUSE OF DEATH: 2 by eagles, 2 by coyote, 2 by hunters.
