Sep 10, 1993 / Grays Lake National Wildlife Refuge / Whooping Crane
Released 2 adults with 3 chicks (not related) with hopes that family bonds would form & the chicks would migrate with adults (they didn't)
SELECTION CRITERIA: made sure there was no aggression before releasing together. SURVIVAL: 2 adults migrated. 3 chicks were recaptured & 2 died in the process- one from shock, one of capture myopathy. The 3rd died after being re-release in a temporary pen in New Mexico, from avian cholera.
