Tried to teach birds to migrate from Austria to Italy by following ultra light planes. There were many stops & starts where they were free-flying, then captive during this time, from Aug 16- Sept 12. Those unable to follow planes were taken each day by car. sub-adults (11) of failed migration last year were included w/ this year's juveniles (10). NOTE: This is a semi-wild population. They are tame to the humans they were raised by & return to the aviaries.
RELEASE DATE: day they were let out at final location (the RELEASE SITE) PRE-RELEASE TRAINING: imprinting on human to follow migration. SIMILAR PROCEDURE: are learning how to best do this as they go.
