Notes: What's This?
29 Amakihi eggs were collected from 12 wild nests. 7 were dead in the nest or broken, and 2 were infertile, making 20 eggs to be incubated. High next mortality was due to stormy weather. 17 eggs hatched, 2 chicks pipped and died, and 1 embryo was malpositioned in the egg. Thus, 16 eggs were successfully hand-reared. The purpose of this reintroduction was to develop techniques for restoration of endangered Hawaiian honeycreepers.
