RELEASE DATE: not known. The purpose of this release was to determine the predictive value of pre-release behavior. Thus, captive chicks were divided into the following 2 (not 3 like in 1995) groups: 22 hand reared with intensive human contac and 22 hand reeared with intensive human contact and predator training. 3 others were released but had to be recaptured for veterinary care. POST RELEASE MONITORING: survival to the beginning of the annual breeding season, at the end of the following February was taken as the cut off point because captive males have displayed and females have laid eggs in their first year. 23 had died from predation, 12 died from unknown causes and were withdrawn, 2 went missing, and 11 were still alive. Since the release date is not known in 1995, it is unknown how far February of the next year was.
