Jul 28, 2003 / Hampshire, UK / Red Kite
2 fertile kite eggs were incubated by broody hens and then hatched in a captive incubator. chicks were reared by surrogate euopean buzzards until their removal to artificial nest sites (hacking) at an age of 41-45 days (pre-fledging). The pair had a separate release site in Hampshire than the July 17 2003 pair. Food was supplied to the hack site at the beginning of 3 weeks but gradually decreased to 0 as they began to forage on nearby feeding station that the conservatory made to supplement other raptors. The pair was monitored 8 months after release.
